About DivorceCostEstimator.com

We built the resource we wished existed when facing the financial reality of divorce.

Our Mission

Most people facing divorce have no idea what it will actually cost. Attorney websites give vague ranges. Legal aid sites focus on process, not numbers. We built DivorceCostEstimator.com to fill that gap with real, state-specific data that helps people understand the financial picture before they make any decisions.

Our goal is simple: give anyone in the United States a free, accurate starting point for understanding divorce costs in their state. No sign-up required. No sales pitch hidden behind the calculator. Just clear information when you need it most.

What We Cover

  • 15 Free Calculators

From the full divorce cost estimator to child support, alimony, asset division, QDRO costs, and filing fees. Every calculator uses state-specific data.

  • All 50 States

Every calculator includes state-specific formulas, filing fees, waiting periods, and legal requirements sourced from public court records and state statutes.

  • Plain Language

We explain how each formula works, what factors affect your outcome, and what questions to ask an attorney, in language that does not require a law degree.

Our Data Sources

The data powering our calculators comes from public sources: state court websites, state statutes, the National Conference of State Legislatures, the American Bar Association, and US Census Bureau divorce statistics. We verify and update state data quarterly. Each state's data record includes the source URLs we used and the date last verified.

Last data verification: January 2025. State-specific filing fees and attorney rate ranges are updated quarterly.

Important: What This Site Is Not

DivorceCostEstimator.com is an informational resource, not a law firm. Nothing on this site is legal advice. Our calculators produce estimates based on typical outcomes and published formulas. Your actual costs will depend on your specific circumstances, your attorney, and your judge. Use our tools to prepare and plan, then consult a licensed family law attorney in your state for guidance specific to your situation.
