Overview

We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, when we share or sell it, and the choices you have. Our calculators are free and anonymous. If you choose to connect with a family law attorney through our optional opt-in, we share and sell the contact information you provide to attorney partners. See Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information below for how to opt out.

Information We Collect

Calculator inputs

When you use our calculators, your inputs are processed in your browser and temporarily on our servers to generate your estimate. We do not store calculator inputs linked to your identity unless you choose to request an attorney review or a report.

Email address

If you request a report, ask to save your estimate, or opt in to connect with an attorney, we collect your email address - and, for an attorney connection, your first name, phone number, and ZIP code - to deliver what you asked for and for follow-up communication you have consented to.

Usage data

We collect anonymous usage data through Vercel Analytics, including pages visited, time on page, and general geographic region. This data is not linked to your identity.

Cookies

We use a single functional cookie to remember your light or dark mode preference. We do not set our own tracking cookies. Google AdSense, our advertising provider, may set its own cookies for ad delivery and measurement; see Third-Party Services below.

How We Use Your Information

  • To deliver reports or saved estimates you request via email.
  • To connect you with a family law attorney when you opt in, including sharing and selling the information you provide to our attorney partners (see below).
  • To improve calculator accuracy and content.
  • To send follow-up emails if you have opted in. You can unsubscribe at any time.
  • To comply with legal obligations.

Attorney Lead Referrals

Our calculators do not require any personal information. If you choose to opt in to connect with a family law attorney, we collect and then share and sell the information you provide to our attorney partners so they can contact you about your case. This only happens when you explicitly opt in and provide consent. You are never automatically enrolled, and your estimate is the same whether or not you opt in.

Categories of personal information we sell or share: identifiers (your first name, email address, phone number, and ZIP code) and the case details you provide (such as your state, divorce stage, whether children are involved, and your estimate summary).

Who receives it:licensed family law attorneys and law firms (and their authorized representatives), and the attorney-referral networks we work with, currently 4LegalLeads and Cordell & Cordell. Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), this opt-in is a “sale” and a “share” of personal information. We do not sell or share information about visitors who do not opt in.

We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 18.

Data Retention

  • Calculator results stored in our system: 7 days.
  • Reports or saved estimates: 30 days, then permanently deleted.
  • Attorney-connection leads (contact details, the consent you gave, and the consent certificate): retained for up to 5 years to document your consent and comply with legal obligations, then deleted.

Your Rights

  • Right to access. Email us to request a copy of the data we hold about you.
  • Right to deletion. Email us to request deletion of your data.
  • Right to opt out of sale or sharing. You can direct us not to sell or share your personal information. See Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information below.
  • California residents (CCPA/CPRA). You have the right to know what personal information we collect, sell, or share; to access and delete it; to opt out of its sale or sharing; and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. As described above, when you opt in to connect with an attorney we sell and share your personal information, and you can opt out at any time.

Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information

We sell and share personal information only when you opt in to connect with a family law attorney. You have the right to direct us not to sell or share your personal information.

To opt out, email privacy@divorcecostestimator.com with the subject line “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” and the email address, phone number, or ZIP code you provided. We will process your request and confirm by email. You can also reach this section any time via the “Do Not Sell or Share My Info” link in the site footer.

The simplest way to avoid any sale or sharing of your information is not to opt in to the attorney-connection offer. Using our calculators never sells or shares your information.

Third-Party Services

We use the following providers to operate the site. Each handles a specific function and only the data needed for that function.

  • Resend for email delivery.
  • Neon for database hosting.
  • Upstash for caching and lead storage.
  • Vercel for hosting and anonymous analytics.
  • Anthropic for AI report generation.
  • ActiveProspect (TrustedForm) to record and verify your consent when you opt in to an attorney connection.
  • Google AdSense for advertising. AdSense may set cookies for ad delivery and measurement on this site.
  • 4LegalLeads and Cordell & Cordell for attorney referrals (opt-in only).

We may update this policy from time to time as our practices evolve or as required by law.
